Data Havens — Has the Time Come?

HavenCo’s audacious plan to create a “data haven” strikes me as a good idea that’s not likely to succeed once big governments and companies object. I have a slightly different proposal — to find a nation that’s willing to take this on.

Texas Mocks Justice

Los Angeles Times: Condemned Man Awaits Fate in Dozing Lawyer Case. Texas prosecutor tells appellate judges that suspect received adequate defense even though counsel often slept.

Personal Firewall

If you have a cable or DSL Internet connection, you’re risking a lot unless you are very careful about file sharing and other settings that may expose your computer to outsiders. PC users have several choices for firewall software, including Zone Alarm, which I use on mine.

Mac users may want to try the new version of DoorStop from Open Door Software.
