Power Unbounded

  • New York Times: White House Push on Security Steps Bypasses Congress
. The Bush administration has moved swiftly in the last few weeks to expand its national security authority and law enforcement powers in ways that are intended to bypass Congress and the courts, officials and outside analysts say.
  • William Safire: Seizing Dictatorial Power. Not content with his previous decision to permit police to eavesdrop on a suspect’s conversations with an attorney, Bush now strips the alien accused of even the limited rights afforded by a court-martial.

The hell with Congress and the courts. The hell with the Constitution of the United States, which Bush swore to protect and defend.

Where are the so-called conservatives in Congress who would have been screaming from the rooftops had Clinton done such things? Where are the liberals who pretend to care about liberty? Cowering in their offices, almost all of them.

What kind of America will we have? The answer is getting more and more disturbing.
