I’ve been taking chances in my travels. I go for weeks at a time without backing up key information. Usually, I e-mail myself the really crucial stuff, such as in-progress writing and notes. (Yes, I encrypt it…)
So when I spotted the TrekStor Super disk drive — a small but high-capacity drive that runs off the USB port on my laptop PC — I found myself pulling out my credit card. Knocking seriously on wood, I’m pleased so far.
The alleged capacity of the $180 drive is 6 gigabytes, though it’s actually about 5.6GB. (Why do companies lie this way?) I backed up half a gig in about 10 minutes.
My plan is to carry this with me when I travel. I figure the odds of both disks crashing on the same trip are miniscule.
The company’s Web site is beyond annoying, by the way. It’s graphics-heavy in the extreme, and for no useful purpose that I can see.
