Bad Times in Silicon Valley

Mercury News: Jobless rate reaches 7-year high. State figures show that Santa Clara County’s unemployment rate rose to 6.4 percent in October, up from 6 percent in September and four times higher than the 1.6 percent in October 2000.

It may be worse than it sounds. People are leaving the Bay Area as fast as they can find one-way truck rentals.

The fact that bad times were inevitable doesn’t reduce the pain the unemployed must live with. There are human beings behind those statistics, and families behind many of the unemployed workers. Please remember that.
