Home

United Airlines got me out of Frankfurt yesterday on a nonstop to San Francisco. The security at the airport was, in a word, overwhelming. So were the lines at various checkpoints. Welcome to the future of air travel.

I had a long conversation with one of the flight attendants. She lost friends and colleagues last week, and was clearly skittish about flying at all. She fears for her company and her country.

We left about an hour behind schedule and arrived about 30 minutes late. You could almost hear the collective sigh of relief when the plane landed. This, too, may be the future of air travel — a constant and pervasive chill.

It’s good to be home.
