Ever since blaming the problem on Logitech, Microsoft has pretty much ignored my continuing inquiries since I first wrote about my disaster installing Service Pack 2 on Windows 2000.
Logitech, meanwhile, has posted a new MouseWare driver on its Web site. The peripherals company is plainly not thrilled with Microsoft’s assignment of responsibility, however. A Logitech PR person says:
There was a change in the Win 2000 service pack 2 thatwe were not forewarned of. Logitech can not comment on the actions ofMicrosoft, but we have identified the problem and provided a fix. Thereason that it may have slipped by is because we had problems replicatingthe problem — it does not appear on every computer. This may explain howMicrosoft and Logitech QA may have let it slip through. When Logitech’s QAteam release a new version of MouseWare, they test it against numeroustypes of system and software combinations to prevent this type ofoccurrence.
Bottom line, if you have a Logitech mouse: Before installing Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, download MouseWare v 9.29 from the Logitech site.
