This time what’s at stake is the locked-in-ness of Windows and Office. I think Microsoft guessed wrong. We love the Web, now that Microsoft wants to kill it, we will say no.

On Sharing Windows XP. So, bear all this in mind when you consider whether to upgrade your home PC to Windows XP, especially if you have more than one computer. The upgrade may cost more than you expected, both in dollars and in lost privacy.
UPDATE: Microsoft PR insists there is no privacy threat whatever with Windows XP. We’ll have to wait and see, won’t we.
