Mercury News: Rambus found guilty of fraud in patent dispute. Last week, U.S. District Judge Robert Payne threw out Rambus’ patent-infringement claims against Infineon. And Wednesday, a jury ruled on Infineon’s countersuit, which contended Rambus fraudulently participated in industry meetings to set standards for memory chips without disclosing it had filed patent applications on designs that it was promoting as standards.
This could be extremely bad news for Rambus, which has been one of the most aggressive companies in going after alleged patent infringers. But it could be good news for the technology industry as a whole.
Rambus sued Infineon, which counter-sued and won a slam-down verdict. The judge threw out Rambus’ claims, and the jury whacked Rambus for its behavior.
Maybe this will be a cautionary tale.
