Majority Leader: Strengthen Medical Privacy

Dick Armey, the majority leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives, is doing his best to stall privacy legislation that would protect us from the predations of big business.

But at least he’s trying, in some cases, to keep government snoops out of our lives. Today, Armey asked that the new medical-privacy regulations be amended to require a court-ordered warrant before government personnel can see them.

Privacy advocates should support this. And Armey should reconsider his apparent belief that big business can be trusted — or, contrary to all available evidence, forced by the marketplace — to do the right thing.
