Above is Junichi Rekimoto in his Interaction Laboratory at the the Sony Computer Science Laboratories in Tokyo. They’re doing fascinating work.
Rekimoto’s focus is the user interface in a world where computers are everywhere and part of everything. When the room itself is the computing environment, what is the interface?
It should be everything, he says, and he’s using a system of sensors and devices where the network understands what’s around and work with that knowledge. He can “pick up” a file using a special stylus and put the file down on another screen. He can drag an image that’s projected on the table and put it into a computer, then onto the white board.
I’m working on a column on this…stay tuned.
