INET 2000

I’m back in Yokohama today at the Internet Society’s annual conference, INET 2000. The meeting is taking place in a country that is way ahead in some ways and behind in others. Nowhere is the Web-enable wireless action more frenetic — NTT DoCoMo’s I-Mode is just incredible — but the Internet isn’t making the inroads in other ways that it should.

Ipv6, the next generation Internet Protocol, is a major topic here. I’ll tell you what I find.

The most interesting aspect of INET, in some ways, is its diversity. People have come here from 100 countries, organizers say. It’s great fun, and highly instructive, to be around people who are not from your background.
